    Biography
Marta Esti Kaufmann, nee Gellman is the daughter of Sarolta (Sara) Selymes and Alexander Gellman, both Hungarian Jewish survivors. Sarlota Selymes was the oldest of seven children born to Arpad (b. 1898) and Erzebet Selymes (b. 1899). Her father owned a crystal, porcelain and radio business in Szerencs. In June 1944 the family was deported to the Miskolc ghetto and from there sent to Auschwitz. Arpad and Erzebet were killed immediately together with their three youngest children Jozef (Jossi, 1929), Imre (Imi, b. 1931) and Aaron (b. 1936). The four older sisters Sarah, Eva, Marta and Vali survived as teenagers. Sarlota married Alexander Gellman who had survived having served in a Hungarian labor battalion.
