Caption: View of the destroyed former Gestapo headquarters in the Hotel Metropole at Franz Joseph's Quay in Vienna, Austria.

The Hotel Metropole was constructed in 1871-1873. After the annexation of Austria to Nazi Germany March, 1938, the hotel was confiscated by the Gestapo and used as their headquarters until the building was hit by a bomb and burned down during World War II.

The handwritten caption on the back of the photograph reads: "Former Gestapo Building, Franz Josephs Kai, Vienna."
