    An emaciated survivor of the Mauthausen concentration camp lies on a wooden cart outside a camp barrack.

    This photograph is one of seven taken by Dr. Milton Silver's encounters at the Mauthausen concentration camp. Silver served with the 11th Armored Division during World War II, and on May 5, 1945 he was among those troops who liberated the camp. Dr. Silver later returned with those American servicemen who entered the camp as part of a medical detail.
