- Biography
- Erich Rosenberg was born in 1924 to Julius and Lilly (nee Rosenthal) Rosenberg in Hamburg, Germany. He had two brothers, Hellmuth (b. 1921) and Gunther (b. 1925). By 1940 both Lilly and Julius Rosenberg had died. With no immediate family still living in Germany, Erich and his brothers were cared for by the Hamburg Jewish community. Erich and Gunther lived separately at the Jewish orphanage from their older brother, who was already in his late teens. In early 1941 Gunther immigrated to the United States on a student visa. A few months later Erich and Hellmuth were deported separately to Riga and Lodz. Neither survived the Holocaust.
