- Biography
- Hans Wolfson was born the son of Eduard and Kaethe (nee Pagel) Wolfson in Strelitz, Germany on February 19, 1928. Hans had one sister, Regina (b. 1926). Until November 1938 Eduard Wolfson was the propriertor of the A. M. Ephraimson grain and cereals business in Neustrelitz. During Kristallnacht, Eduard Wolfson was arrested and interned in the Altstrelitz penitentiary where he remained for nearly a month until his release on December 2nd. In the following months Eduard's business was Aryanized and life grew increasingly difficult for the family. Hans and Regina eventually came in to the care of Jewish orphanages in Hamburg and Stettin at various points in the years that followed. Both Hans and Regina spent time at the orphanage run by the Jewish community of Hamburg. On July 11, 1942 Hans, Regina, and their parents were deported from Neustrelitz to Auschwitz where they perished. On this same transport were the remaining children and staff of the Hamburg Jewish orphanage.
