- Biography
- Frieda Zeidshnur (later Rosner), the wife of the donor, was born to Zelman and Judit (nee Elkind) Zeidshnur on July 4, 1930 in Vilna. Zelman Zeidshnur was employed in a family clothing wholesale business, and Judit was a doctor. In 1941 the Zaidshnur family was forced into the Vilna ghetto. Shortly thereafter Judit was able to secure a hiding place for her daughter with non-Jewish farmers. Eventually Judit and Zelman also escaped from the ghetto and reunited with their daughter. The Zeidshnurs remained in this hiding place through the war, periodically paying the farmer who kept them by revealing the location of valuables they had hidden near their former home.
After their liberation, the Zeidshnurs discovered that their extended family had perished. In the wake of this loss the Zaidschnurs struggled to rebuild their lives in Poland. After a brief stay in Lodz where they encountered hardship and continued antisemitism, the family immigrated to Sweden. There Frieda met Karl Heinz Rosner, a young survivor from Germany. In 1951 Zelman and Judit Zeidshnur left Sweden for the United States. A year later Frieda and Karl Heinz followed suit. Eventually the Rosners settled in Schenectady, New York where they raised a family.
