- Biography
- Anna Wachalska, a Polish woman with connections to the Polish socialist underground, who, together with her sister, Maria Sawicka, willingly assisted the Jewish underground in Warsaw during the German occupation. She sheltered many Jews and facilitated communication between different partisan groups. She was the protector of Feigele Peltel, providing her with the alias of her deceased daughter, Stanislawa, and rescuing her from jail with a well placed bribe. Wachalska was recognized by Yad Vashem as one of the Righteous Among the Nations in 1964.
