Group portrait of Jewish female survivors of Bergen-Belsen, who were evacuated to Sweden at the end of the war, and are now convalescing at hospital in Stensjoen Nomnekul.
Pictured in the back row, at the base of the stairs and seventh from the right, is the donor's wife, Helen Kaufman. Originally from Beregasz, in Hungarian-controlled Slovakia, Kaufman was deported to Auschwitz in May 1944. She was later transferred to Bergen-Belsen, where she was liberated.
Also among those pictured are Barbara (Borbala) Grunstein (third from the left in the front row) and her Ilona Gerendas (second from the left in the first row).
