Original caption from donated photograph reads: "The bodies of a little baby and a young child rest in a mass grave awaiting burial at the horror camp at Nordhausen, Germany. When U.S. troops arrived in the area, they found hundreds of dead former slave workers strewn about the grounds. Decomposing corpses lay beside the sick and dying and disease was spreading unchecked among the maltreated prisoners of many nationalities. U.S. Army officers immediately ordered German civilians in the area to provide decent burial for the victims."
