Jewish women from Subcarpathian Rus who have been selected for forced labor at Auschwitz-Birkenau, march toward their barracks after disinfection and headshaving.

According to Leo Cove, these women were on their way to pick up their bread rations. One of these women saved Mr. Cove's mother by pulling her from the line of women selected for death and sticking a loaf of bread in her hands.
