    Interview Summary
    Helēna Lobza, born in 1929 in Daugavpils, Latvia, describes her Jewish neighbors; seeing three actions in which large groups of Jews were taken to the Golden Mountain to be executed; hearing gunfire from the mass shootings; going to the execution site and finding a doll, which her father prohibited her from keeping at home; giving bread to Jews on the street; empty Jewish apartments; and a Jewish girl who was hidden in the attic of her brother’s home during the war.

    This is a witness interview of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Perpetrators, Collaborators, and Witnesses: The Jeff and Toby Herr Testimony Initiative, a multi-year project to record the testimonies of non-Jewish witnesses to the Holocaust. The interview was directed and supervised by Nathan Beyrak. The interview was conducted with Helēna Lobza on June 29, 2008 for the Museum's Latvia Documentation Project. The Oral History Branch received the interview in August 2007.
