    Description
    Contains diverse records relating to the activity of the District Commission in Częstochowa to Investigate Nazi Crimes in the Częstochowa region. Includes files related to the investigation of German crimes; administrative files, including lists of the members of the commission and day-books; questionnaires with information about places and facts of German crimes; name lists of the people sentenced for death by the German Sondergerichte; name lists of the people shot or deported from Częstochowa it's vicinity to concentration camps; name lists of the German officers of the Częstochowa town and district; copies of the journal of the prisoners on detention for the investigation purposes; also contains a copy of the study: “Z życia Częstochowy w czasie okupacji” (“From the lifetime of Częstochowa during the occupation”); and photocopies and original files, photographs, situation sketches, names of victims.

    The files are organized in the following order: Reel 1: File 1, 5, 10-12, 13-13a, 14-19. Reel 2: File 20-27.

    Records are arranged in the original order of their acquisition from the source archive. The museum has acquired only selected records from Institute of National Remembrance (Instytut Pamięci Narodowej-Komisja Ścigania Zbrodni przeciwko Narodowi Polskiemu, or IPN).     Conditions on Access
    This material can only be accessed in a Museum reading room or other on-campus viewing stations. Researchers must complete and sign a User Declaration form before access is granted to materials from the Institute of National Remembrance (Instytut Pamięci Narodowej).
    Conditions on Use
    1. Each researcher using the materials obtained from the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) or materials whose originals belong to the IPN must complete the registration procedure required by USHMM.
    2. Publication or reproduction of documents (in the original language, in facsimile form or in the form of a translation of an excerpt or of the entire document) or making them available to a third party in any form requires the written consent of the Institute of National Remembrance (archiwumipn@ipn.gov.pl). The use of an excerpt defined as the fair use right to quote does not require obtaining consent.
    3. Researchers assume all responsibility for the use of materials that belong to the Institute of National Remembrance.
    4. References to documents that belong to the Institute of National Remembrance must cite the Institute of National Remembrance as the owner of the original documents and include the full reference citation of the Institute of National Remembrance in the citations.

    Provenance
    Source of acquisition is the Institute of National Remembrance - Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation (IPN) Warsaw, Poland. Records were created by the District Commission in Częstochowa to Investigate the Nazi Crimes between 1944 to 1949. Later, in 1998, custody of the records was transferred to the newly established Institute of National Remembrance (IPN). The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the filmed collection via the United States Holocaust Museum International Archives Project in February 2010.
