Biography: Howard Arnold Strauch was born on September 13, 1925, in Watertown, New York. He enlisted on September 7, 1943, at the age of 18, in the United States Army. He was in the 343rd Infantry Regiment and served as a light mortar crewman in the central Europe and Pacific theaters. Strauch received the American Campaign Medal, Pacific Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal as decorations for his service. He was honorably discharged from the Army on April 5, 1946, in Fort Dix, New Jersey.
