Fischl and Gerstmann family papers

The Fischl and Gerstmann family papers include documents, photographs, and correspondence relating to the experiences of Alice Fischl and her family in Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic) and Palestine after Alice was sent to Palestine in 1939 by her parents, as well as Eli Gerstmann and his family in Germany and their immigration to Palestine in 1935. During the war, both Alice and Eli joined the Haganah, an underground military organization, and later immigrated to the United States in 1958. Material relating to the Fischl family consists of biographical and identification material including birth and death announcements, passports, and work papers, correspondence mainly to Alice and Lidya in Czechoslovakia and later Palestine, restitution documentation, autograph books, and notebooks of patterns for clothing, recipes, and a family narrative. Also included is an album and photographs of the Fischl family in Czechoslovakia, Palestine, and the United States. Material relating to the Gerstmann family consists of biographical material, identification documents including birth certificates, identification cards, and immigration documents for Hermann, Gerda, Eli, Lucie, and Nina, medical records, correspondence, and restitution documentation.
