    Overview

    Collection Summary
The collection consists of a personal account of the imprisonment of Herbert Leopold Strauss (1900-1980) at Buchenwald, a photograph of Herbert Leopold Strauss, and a Jüdischer Rechtsanwalt; Deutsche, geht zur deutschen Rechtsanwälten placard. The placard was originally posted in front of Strauss's legal practice in Leipzig to dissuade Germans from patronizing the business. Strauss's legal partner, a non-Jew, objected to the posting of the sign and it was removed and saved by the Strauss family. The collection also includes family photographs and Strauss's WWI medal.
    Provenance
The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2023 by Mark S. Izenson, Daniel E. Izenson, and Cathy Izenson Jenkins.
