    Collection Summary
    The collection consists of two parts: Part 1: Photographs of the pogrom in Lviv taken on June 30/July 1, 1941 immediately after the capture of the city by the Wehrmacht. Part 2: 500 photos & 200 contact sheets, notebooks, and other supporting documents belonging to Uffz. NICKEL, a non-commissioned officer who was a member of the [probably III Battalion] of the Gebirgs-Jäger-Regiments 98 der 1. Gebirgs-Division (Mountain Infantry Regiment 98 of the 1st Mountain Division). This unit was in Lemberg from June 30 to July 4, 1941 (the identification of a Gebirgsjäger is possible via the cap with edelweiss on photo No. V57). Also includes photographs from the Lviv Pogrom (part of the series that comprises Part 1) as well as photographs from France, Belgium and Italy.
    Provenance
    The collection was acquired by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2023.
