- The collection consists of documents, correspondence, photographs, musical compositions and exercises, sketches, recorded letters, Werner Gans' memoir, "Ten Years--A Lifetime", a cello and bow, a document holder, and a thermometer relating to the experiences of the Gans (previously Ganss) family in Germany, Italy, Cuba, and the US before and during the Holocaust.

- The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2024 by Steven H. and Lori B. Gans, the son and daughter-in-law of Werner Gans.
