    Arlette Dachary, former secretary to the head of “Ponts et Chaussées” (public works) in Gurs concentration camp, discusses her family background and education; the sight of refugees in Bordeaux; her brother’s forced labor; the daily routine of Gurs; her administrative duties; the backgrounds and duties of her colleagues; artistic life in the camp; medical treatment, food, water, and living conditions in the camp; the different categories of inmates at Gurs; the organization of adoption of children by Swiss couples; the disposal of dead bodies; deportations of prisoners; the role of the Swiss Red Cross; the construction of a cemetery; identification of the dead and creating inscriptions for the graves; life in the camp after liberation; her interrogation; fates of different colleagues after liberation; and documents, art, and artifacts from her time working in Gurs.
