    Juana Torczyner, born December 4, 1917 in Vienna, Austria, discusses her childhood in Vienna; her assimilated family life; her education; the changes she experienced after the Anschluss in March 1938, including social ostracism, economic hardship, and the threat of her father's arrest; her decision to escape to Switzerland with her fiancé in August 1939; their difficult journey through France and Spain to a ship that carried them to Cuba; her experiences in Cuba; her illness; their eventual journey to New York, NY in December 1941; their life in New York; their decision to move to San Francisco, CA; and their life after the war.
