    Leonore Hollander (née Hollander), born in 1906, discusses her parents and their early lives; her mother who was German and not Jewish; her father who was Jewish; living in Philadelphia; earning a bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Bryn Mawr in 1928; living in Prague, Czech Republic for her graduate study in chemistry from 1933 to 1935; getting married in 1934 to Franz Koehler; living in Germany as “American Mischlinge” throughout the Nazi era; living in Heidelberg from 1935 to 1937 to continue her studies at the Max Planck Institute; her non-Jewish husband's career as research chemist being limited because of her ancestry; living in Darmstadt from 1937 to 1940; settling in Alsbachan der Bergstrasse (part of Alsbach-Hähnlein) to raise her family from 1940 to 1946; divorcing in 1944; and returning to the United States through HIAS in 1946.

    The Bay Area Holocaust Oral History Project conducted the interview with Leonore Hollander on January 28, 1983. The interview was received by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives Branch in April 2007.
