    Ruth Elizabeth Weiss, born on June 24, 1928 in Berlin, Germany, discusses her childhood in Berlin; her family's move to Vienna, Austria after Hitler's rise to power in 1933; her education; her family life; the changes she experienced after Kristallnacht in November 1938; her father's arrest and release; the family's decision to leave Austria; their unsuccessful attempts to enter Switzerland; their immigration to the United States in late December 1938; her experiences in New York City; her temporary placement in an orphanage; her family's return to Europe during her father's military service; her return to the US; her life and travels in the US; and her work as a poet.

    The Bay Area Holocaust Oral History Project conducted the interview with Ruth Weiss on May 14, 1993 and July 22, 1993. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received the tapes of the interview from the Bay Area Holocaust Oral History Project in December 2001.
