Oral history interview with Berthold Zanders

Berthold Zanders, born on March 20, 1920 in Cologne, Germany, discusses his childhood in Cologne; his culinary studies and apprenticeship in Brussels, Belgium; his awareness of the increase in antisemitism in Germany; his family's immigration from Germany to Ecuador in March 1939; the assistance he received from a friend in the travel agency they used; his life and marriage in Ecuador; his immigration to Chile; immigrating in 1963 to the United States; and his successful career as a chef in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
