Hurst Sommer discusses his childhood in Breslau, Germany (now Wroclaw, Poland); his time in a Jewish children's home; his memories of Kristallnacht; his family's decision to leave for Shanghai, China in May 1939; the journey to Shanghai; his experiences in Shanghai; his family's move to Palestine; and moving from Palestine to New York circa 1940 with his brother while his parents stayed behind.
