    Interview Summary
    Genia Shapiro discusses her childhood in Kaunas, Lithuania; her education; her family life; her experiences during the German invasion in 1941; the changes that occurred after the occupation; her internment in the Kaunas ghetto; her experiences in the ghetto; the work she performed; her role in smuggling food in for her family and the consequences of being discovered; the role of the Lithuanian soldiers in the deportations she witnessed; her deportation to Dachau in 1943, the conditions there, the brutality of the guards, and her illness; and the ailments she experienced after the war as a result of her Holocaust experiences.
