    Interview Summary
    Billy Taylor, born in 1913, discusses his decision to join the United States Army in June 1941; his training in Hawaii with the segregated Japanese-American unit; the attitude of the Army towards the soldiers and their dedication and discipline; the unit's campaigns through Italy, France, and Germany; their rescue of the Lost Battalion; their arrival at Dachau; the things he witnessed in the camp; the condition of the liberated prisoners; his increased animosity toward the SS officers, though not the Germans themselves; his experiences during the liberation of Stephanskirchen (a subcamp of Dachau) and his unit's subsequent orders to capture SS officers near Munich; and meeting a former Dachau inmate later in life.
