    Alice Bloomfield discusses her childhood in Berlin, Germany; her mother's death, followed by her father's remarriage; her education and work life; her marriage in 1925; her life in Berlin; her husband's business success; the onset of antisemitism after the Nazi Party rose to power; the events of Kristallnacht in November 1938; her husband's brief arrest and release; their move to Shanghai, China in 1939; their initial uncomfortable experiences in Shanghai, which was eased by their affluence; their immigration to the United States in 1941; arriving in San Francisco, CA; her son's birth; and her work and family life.
