    Interview Summary
    Werner Weinstein, born on 1927 in Schmiedeberg, Germany, discusses his childhood; his family life; the changes he experienced after Hitler's rise to power; his experiences during Kristallnacht in November 1938; his family's move to Berlin, Germany, and their escape to Holland; his education there and the changes he experienced after the German invasion in May 1940; the work he performed; his deportation with his family to Westerbork; their subsequent transfer to Terezin (Theresienstadt), and their experiences during the creation of a German propaganda film there; his deportation with his brother to Auschwitz in September 1944; their transfer to Gleiwitz and his experiences there; his liberation by the Soviet Army in February 1945; his journey with his brother to Czernowitz, Poland (now Chernivtsi, Ukraine); their illnesses and hospitalizations in Poland, Switzerland, and France; their reunion with their mother in Paris in 1948; and his immigration to the United States in 1955.
