    Interview Summary
    Paulina Zingeras discusses her childhood in Kaunas, Lithuania; her education; her friendships with Lithuanian children; her memories of the Soviet occupation and her family’s thwarted attempt to flee East after the German invasion; her family’s deportation to the ghetto; her life and work in the ghetto; the liquidation of the ghetto and her transfer to Stutthof concentration camp; the events prior to liberation when there was a threat that the German guards would burn the building she and the other prisoners were in; her experiences during liberation by the Soviets; the difficulty of rebuilding her life after the war; her marriage to a Soviet soldier; and the loss of Jewish culture in postwar Kaunas.
