Leon Schleifer was born in 1900 in Germany. He served in the German army at the end of World War I (1914-1918). He became a political cartoonist and his work was published in the anti-Nazi press. He also specialized in courtroom trial sketches. After the appointment of Hitler as Chancellor in 1933, Schliefer emigrated to the United States. He changed his name to William Sharp and continued his career as an editorial cartoonist and illustrator. His work was published in the New York Times, Life Magazine, and other publications. He died in 1961, age sixty-one years.

Nazi propaganda postcard celebrating voter's approval of Hitler and the Anschluss

Pro-Hitler propaganda postcard for the plebiscite, or popular vote, held in Austria on April 10, 1938, to approve, after the act, the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany on March 13. It features a pencilled portrait of Adolf Hitler, a hand offering the Heil Hitler salute, and the slogan "Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuhrer!" [One People, One Country, One Leader!] There is a commemorative stamp on the back that was issued on April 8, 1938, in honor of the annexation of Austria. The Anschluss [union] was approved by 99.75% of the population. Jews and Roma had lost the right to vote before the election.

Commemorative postcard of the ballot issued to celebrate the Anschluss, the union of Austria with Nazi Germany on March 13, 1938. It was similar to the actual ballot used during the April 10 referendum to approve Hitler as Führer of the expanded Third Reich. There is a commemorative postmark and postage stamp where the Nein [No] ballot choice would have been. The Anschluss [union] was approved by 99.75% of the population. Jews and Roma had lost the right to vote before the election.
US propaganda flier with a message from FDR to the people of French North Africa on the allied invasion

Flier with the heading Message du President des Etats Unis [Message from the US President] issued in French on one side, Arabic on the other, under the signature of Eisenhower as Commander of the American Expeditionary Forces, November 1942. It discusses the long friendship between France and the US and explains that the Allies are invading North Africa in order to liberate the people and destroy their enemies, and will leave when that is done. It features a color image of the American flag and a black and white photograph of President Roosevelt in both sides.
Handbill issued following the first reports on the refugee crisis for Jews in Poland

Announcement issued, probably after 1941, seeking funds for Jewish refugees of the war in Europe, especially Poland. The idea is to bring them to Palestine and, for that, large funds have to be collected. However, it is possible that is was published earlier due to concerns for the coming destruction. The page long declaration has been signed by most of the important people of the Jewish community in Palestine, including the directors of the Sokhnut (the Jewish Agency), well known rabbis and scholars, etc. The back of the paper is covered with pencilled notations listing an organization's income and expenses, probably for the year 1937.
