Mathilde Schwarz Rosenblatt photographs and passport

Document | Accession Number: 2015.337.1

This collection includes photographs, passport, and a Chumash [Pentatuch], partly burned pages from a book of Hebrew writings (possibly Talmudic). The passport was issued to Mathilde Schwarz, born 1923 in Vienna, Austria, to Gershon and Rachel Schwarz, and immigrated to the United States in 1940, leaving her parents behind. Mathilde carried the two photographs of her parents and the Pentatuch which contained the burned pages retrieved the day after Kristallnacht from the streets of Vienna. Mathilde's parents, Gershon and Rachel, did not survive.
