    Interview Summary
    Lore Shaper discusses her childhood in Hanau, Germany; her family's long history in Germany; her life before Hitler rose to power; the increasing antisemitism she experienced; her isolation from her non-Jewish friends; meeting her husband; escaping to the United States with her husband in January 1939; her parents' belief that Nazi persecution would not last and their deaths, along with many family members, during the Holocaust; immigrating to the United States; and building a new life in San Francisco, CA, where she and husband had two children.
