Another group shot with Anna Mayo still second from left and Bocko Mayo second from right. Street scenes, including the young man (appearing earlier) on a bicycle. The visitors walk arm-in-arm down the street, pose around a table. An outdoor market. The visiting men and women walking towards the camera, very nicely dressed. They walk by the waterside. They eat a meal by the water, all raising glasses in a toast. A small band plays. A young local woman stands alone by the waterside. City street scenes with exterior shots of buildings, shops, local women. A herd of sheep go through town. Musicians play. The Mayos and friends sit at a table outside. The water, harbor. People walk across a large plaza in front of columned buildings. The group sight-sees. Apartment building exteriors with balconies. Posing for family portraits, street scenes.

A group of young boys in matching school uniforms cross the street. Local woman, sign: “Dadmakeion” A donkey pulls a cart with piles of tree branches. The synagogue in Salonika - a gated, columned building with a Star of David [Germans used this building as a headquarters during WWII]. Merchant, children. HAS, the city, fields, countryside, factory. A couple of the visitors sit at a table outside under a shaded patio.

    Anna and Bocko Mayo were married in Kastoria, Greece on March 20, 1911. They sailed to New York on the SS Argentina from Patras on July 30, 1911.

    Film Provenance
    Anna and Bocko Mayo recorded on 16mm film their three month journey to Kastoria, Greece to visit family and pursue philanthropic interests in 1937. The granddaughter of Anna Mayo's brother, Ms. Andrea Matza Grass, donated a digital transfer of these original black and white and color films to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum via Larry Confino in May 2017.
    Note
    Footage from the Anna and Bocko Mayo Collection was featured in the 2016 documentary "Trezoros" directed by Larry Confino and Lawrence Russo. The film illustrates the Greek Sephardic community of Kastoria. Of the 1000 Jews who lived in Kastoria before the Holocaust, only 35 survived.
