    Interview Summary
    The interviewee, a Ukrainian man born in 1923, discusses events in Skalat, Ternopil's'ka Oblast, Ukraine; the prewar presence of Jews, including a tailor for whom he worked; the arrival of German forces and the initial shooting of some 30 Jews; seeing with many townspeople the shooting at a small lake; the burial of bodies on the grounds of an old fortress; the departure of German forces as the front moved east and the establishment of a local Skalat administration, which included some residents; seeing Jews who worked on roads being held in a former Polish barracks; the existence of a camp for Jews in Veliky Birki (Velyki Birky), Ukraine; and how his father gave food to his acquaintances who were held in the Velyki Birky camp.
