A Russian woman (possibly Moldavian), born in 1927, discusses her experiences in Proletarsk (Rostov Oblast), Russia before and during WWII; Cossacks before the revolution, collectivization, and the repressions against Cossacks; the German occupation of Rostov Oblast; changing her birth year so she would not be sent to Germany as a forced laborer; the German administration; being removed from their house; digging trenches; the refugees and evacuees in Proletarsk; everyday life under the occupation; Germans taking food from locals; mass murder; and the assaults on locals.
