A Russian woman, born in 1913, discusses her experiences in Petrushino (Rostov Oblast), Russia before and during WWII; life before the war; the fishing kolkhoz in Petrushino; the Jews and Romanies in Petrushino; her husband and two children; working as a cleaner before the war; the famine in the 1930s; the German occupation; being kicked out of their home; being forced to wash Nazi soldiers’ clothing; the temporary stay of the Nazis; the shootings of men and women; pits being dug for mass burials after the shootings; her cousin and uncle being shot for being communists; and the deportation of the Jews; local men being forced to work for the Nazis.
