Susan Eisdorfer Beer, born on May 14, 1924 in Budapest, Hungary, describes growing up in Topolčany, Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia); trying to avoid deportations of the Nazi-sympathetic Slovakian regime in 1942; her arrest in 1943 and being sent to a prison in Budapest; her deportation to Auschwitz in 1944 and receiving the prisoner number 82589; going on a death march in January 1945 to Ravensbrück and then to Mecklenburg; briefly going to the Bergen-Belsen displaced persons camp after her liberation and then returning to Budapest; moving to Bratislava, Czechoslovakia (Slovakia) in 1946; and immigrating to the United States in 1948.
