    Interview Summary
    Margret Hantman (née Simon), born in Berlin, Germany in 1926, discusses being the elder of two girls; her father, who had a grocery store which he lost in 1935 as well as the apartment that the family lived in; her family living with her grandparents in Bernau, Germany where her father worked as a margarine salesperson; returning to Berlin after a few years; working in a cable factory; her sister Eva working nights in a Jewish foundling home; the Gestapo raiding the foundling home one night and transporting everyone, including Eva, to Riga, Latvia where they perished; being deported with her parents to Theresienstadt in December 1942; her father being taken on the second transport for men; being deported with her mother to Auschwitz, where her mother was sent to the line for gassing; being in Auschwitz for three weeks, and then taken to a town near Nachod, Czechoslovakia, where she worked in an airplane factory; the end of the war; living in the Deggendorf displaced persons camp, where she met her husband; and immigrating to the United States in May 1946.
