    Interview Summary
    Guy Taïeb, born on November 21, 1934 in Tunis, Tunisia, discusses his parents; his older sister Annie Taïeb Goldmann (RG-50.030.1023); not having many memories from before or during the war; the small town of Mateur; experiencing antisemitism as a child; his father’s pharmacy in town; the arrival of the German army in Mateur; remaining in school during the occupation; a German officer often dined with his family but not at the same table as them; his father’s cordial relations with this German soldier which may have allowed him the freedom to enter the forced labor camps surrounding Mateur and bring in supplies; his father giving refuge to two young Jews who had escaped a camp; an air raid when her family had to seek refuge in the shelters that had been dug in a public park; going to Tunis; celebrating his Bar Mitzvah; participating in Jewish boy scouts; attending the Lycée Condorcet in Tunis; moving to Paris, France; being drafted for military service in the 1950s and being sent to Algeria; teaching pharmaceutical science at several French universities; and joining the CNRS (Centre national de la recherche scientifique) in 1963.
