    Zbigniew Klawender, born in Warsaw, Poland in 1928, discusses his Jewish classmates and friends; his arrest and transfer to Auschwitz in 1942; work conditions and daily life in Auschwitz; relationships among prisoners in the camp; his transfer to Orienanburg, Germany; his brother’s and father’s arrest after the Warsaw Uprising; and being liberated by the American Army.

    This is a witness interview of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Perpetrators, Collaborators, and Witnesses: The Jeff and Toby Herr Testimony Initiative, a multi-year project to record the testimonies of non-Jewish witnesses to the Holocaust. The interview was directed and supervised by Nathan Beyrak. The interview was conducted with Zbigniew Klawender in Warsaw, Poland on July 4, 1998, for the Polish Witnesses to the Holocaust Project.The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received the tapes of the interview on November 13, 1998.
