Jan Zdebik, born in Rzeszów, Poland in 1921, discusses being sent to Auschwitz as part of the first transport of Polish prisoners (the Tarnów transport); hunger in the camp; his assignment to a job in the camp hospital; witnessing experimental gassings in Block 11; working as a waiter in the SS cantina and listening to the BBC; seeing a selection in Birkenau; and being transferred to Sachsenhausen in 1944.
