    Cherie Goren (née Fleischmann), born on March 16, 1925 in Memel (Claipeda), Lithuania, discusses her early life as a child of an affluent, assimilated orthodox, Zionist, German-speaking family; living in Memel until 1937; interacting socially with German Jews living in Lithuania; experiencing antisemitism; Zionist youth groups; Betar and Ze'ev Jabotinsky; her father sending Cherie and her sister to Riga, Latvia to live with aunts from 1937 to 1939; and immigrating to the United States in April 1939.
