    Herman Gundersheimer, born on April 25, 1903 in Würzburg, Germany, discusses his childhood in a traditional yet assimilated Jewish family in Germany; the Weimar years politically and artistically; university life; serving as curator at a museum in Ulm, Germany and as director of the Museum of Jewish Antiquities in Frankfurt; leaving Germany in August 1939 for England; and immigrating to the United States in May 1940.
