    Eric Jacobson, born in 1910 in Stadthagen (near Bückeburg), Germany, discusses his assimilated family; attending gymnasium; attending law school; his law career ending after Hitler rose to power; Kristallnacht; his imprisonment in Alt Stralias (a prison in an old castle) because Sachsenhausen concentration camp was full; doing forced labor for nearly four months in 1939; his release; leaving for Shanghai, China; traveling to an uncle in Switzerland and then to Italy to embark on a ship; his work teaching French and English lessons; getting married in Shanghai; and immigrating to the United States.
