    Interview Summary
    Hugo Roth, born in Ruma-Srem, Yugoslavia, discusses Hashomer Hatzair; his father serving in the Yugoslav Army; his capture and escape; the Hungarian occupation; hearing about massacres in Temerin and Zabalj; fleeing with his family to Ruma; his family hiding in Novi Sad with falsified documents; witnessing brutal roundups; the arrest of his father and deportation to Buchenwald concentration camp; the deportation of his entire family, most of whom perished; documenting his experiences in his novel "The Somber Morning;” returning to Novi Sad; finishing his studies; his arrest for political reasons in 1948; and living in Belgrade post-war.
