    Interview Summary
    Rakhil Shainsky (née Endler), born on August 2, 1924 in Kiev, Ukraine discusses living in Kiev from 1933 to 1939; attending a Jewish school; childhood memories of fleeing to Kazakhstan (180 miles from Alma-Alta) for four years with her sister and mother in 1941; working on a kolkhoz; scarcity of food; no medical attention; returning to Kiev in 1945; antisemitism postwar; marrying in 1947; emigrated from the USSR August 18, 1978; taking six months to get permits; staying in Italy for five months; and then immigrating to the United States.
