    Interview Summary
    Sara Weingram (née Brandspiegel), born on December 20, 1925 in Pultusk, Poland, discusses her religious family; childhood memories; prewar antisemitism; the eviction of the Jews in September 1939; walking with her family for three months to Bialystok; Russians sending them east at her family’s request; her father working in Orsha, Belarus for six months; fleeing east when the Germans invaded in 1941; accidental separation from her family during travel; her placement in an orphanage in Roscazuf [PH]; reuniting with her family; living in Magnitogorsk in the Ural mountains until 1946; illness, hardship, and starvation; returning to Poland; postwar antisemitism; receiving assistance from Hashomer Hatzair; living in Saalfelden displaced persons camp for six months; being smuggled into Italy; living in DP camps in Milan, Trani, Salerno, and Bagnoli from 1947 to 1951; going to Bremen, German in 1951; and immigrating to the United States with help from the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (the Joint).
