    Interview Summary
    Ava Zifferblatt (née Tews), born on February 21, 1934 in Stargard, Germany, discusses her Jewish mother and Gentile father; her parent’s divorce; childhood memories of staying with aunts and grandparents; not seeing her mother often; traveling to Sweden on a child transport organized by HIAS or the Red Cross; violence against Jews; living with a Gentile Swedish family that was paid by HIAS; it being a very difficult time socially; a survivor from Auschwitz concentration camp telling Ava her mother perished at Auschwitz; being sent to live with another family in a smaller town; being sexually abused by the head of the household; child slave labor; immigrating to the United States with help from her mother’s sister-in-law in 1949; and eventually settling in Philadelphia, PA.
