    Interview Summary
    David Zwirn, born on March 15, 1924 in Korczina, Poland, discusses moving with his family to Dziedzice (in Upper Silesia) in 1936; childhood memories of the Jewish community and synagogue; the Betar Movement; prewar antisemitism; daily beatings by Polish children; the German occupation; fleeing eighty miles but then returning home; the deportation of his family to Kente in 1941, then to Nowy Sacz; his parents and brother’s deportation to Auschwitz concentration camp; being sent to Wadowice then to forced labor in Tzufe for one year; deportation to Sosnowiec, then to Tzinich (?) in May 1942; witnessing the brutal beating of an attempted escapee; working in a textile factory in Freiburg; going to Grosmalov for six months; Waldenburg; forced labor; observance of holidays; liberation by the Soviet Army May 8, 1945, returning home postwar; meeting his wife Genia on the way back to Waldenburg; marrying in Poland; living in Feldafing displaced persons camp in 1946; and immigrating to the United States in 1949.
