    Interview Summary
    Walter Boninger, born on June 21, 1928 in Hamburg, Germany, discusses the taking of his father during Kristallnacht, his father’s return in January 1939; traveling by train to join his grandparents in Antwerp, Belgium in February 1939; his parents joining him in Antwerp; journeying on the SS Simon Bolivar bound for Chile; the ship hitting a mine and being wrecked; the deaths of his parents; an English fishing boat rescuing him; his aunt and uncle in England finding him; and immigrating to the United States in September 1940.
