    Interview Summary
    Marco Nahon, born in Dhidhimótikhon, Turkey, (later Greece), discusses his work as a medical doctor; Jewish life in Dhidhimótikhon; relations with the non-Jewish community; the geography of the area prewar; serving in the Bulgarian army in World War I; attending a French university in Beirut in 1912; the German occupation of Greece; the deportation of all the Jews of Dhidhimótikhon to Auschwitz in 1943; the deaths of most of his family; selections by Josef Mengele; his assignment to keep ill prisoners quiet with a stick; his deportation to Stutthof, Ohrdruf, Crawinkel, Buchenwald, and Flossenbürg mostly by death march; arriving at Dachau on April 28, 1945; liberation by the Americans the next day; his son also surviving Auschwitz; returning to Dhidhimótikhon in 1945; and immigrating to the United States in 1956.

    The Gratz College Holocaust Oral History Archive donated the interview to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2017. The interview was recorded for the American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors in 1985.
